Monday Madness: Volume 12

quote of the week:

“Living with integrity means: Not settling for less than what you know you deserve in your relationships. Asking for what you want and need from others. Speaking your truth, even though it might create conflict or tension. Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values. Making choices based on what you believe, and not what others believe.”
– Barbara De Angelis

ahhhh…well let me tell you what…i have never been very good at “speaking my truth”. i am good at talking. but what i am also really good at is keeping the peace. i am a conflict adverse person at the core. now don’t get me wrong- i am not afraid of a good argument however, i really like peaceful and happy relationships. i have been known to swallow myself in relationships with others just to keep things easier. it has been one of my life lessons that keeps presenting itself over and over and life is smacking me in the face telling me to learn this lesson once and for all. so…i am learning to speak my truth and ask for what i need from others. it’s a slow process but i am mindful and keep working on it. i’m thinking of either having “speak your truth” written big on my wall or tattooed on my arm. 🙂

how about you? where do you struggle in your relationships?

highlights of the week:

* taxes! ugh…taxes!! (i guess this really isn’t a highlight.) the beginning of last week was nothing but me and my office and a pile of receipts and bills and bank statements and spread sheets. i promise myself every year that i’ll be more organized the next year. it’s a goal again this year…keep organized and on top of things! (i’m crossing  my fingers…but not holding my breath)

* so excited to welcome julia and jason to the wedding calendar! so excited for their sure to be a gorgeous wedding at the mansion at strathmore.

* late last week was of course spent trying to stay warm, shoveling snow, and drinking lots of hot chocolate due to our snowstorm here. to say that i am over the cold is slightly misleading. that statement is not anywhere near strong enough. i need warm weather so badly!!! all i want to do right now is stay curled up on my couch watching horrible lifetime television movies and eating junk food. i’ll be 50lbs heavier by the time spring decides to show up (bear is over the snow too! he wouldn’t even go pee.)

* i did try to embrace the snow though…and dragged everyone outside for some late night snow pictures!

* on friday i even convinced savannah to get dressed and we did her hair and makeup for a fun snowy portrait session. it’s nice having a model that lives with you!

* valentine’s day was nice. i got up and made blueberry muffins for breakfast and i got some awesome reusable orange shopping bags, some chocolates, and a kick ass new lens for my iPhone. it is a wide-angle lens on one side, a fish eye, and a macro…depending on which way you flip it around. it’s a super fun new toy to play with. we also went our for dinner and had some yummy mexican food and terrific margaritas.

here are a few funny photos taken with the new fisheye iPhone lens. hahahahahhaha. it’s almost like having a fun house mirror!!! (and savannah may just kill me. i bust out laughing every time i look at the one of myself.)
