Monday Madness: Volume 18

Quote of the week:

“Very often a change of self is needed more than a change of scene.”  – A.C. Benson

I so desperately want to go on a vacation…right now! I see everyone’s posts on Facebook and Instagram and Twitter about their getaways and I see their photos and I get little pangs of jealousy. This has been a cold and long winter it seems like and I ache for warm weather and blue skies and sunshine and green grass and the ocean with the sand between my toes. I also ache for walking around randomly in a new city off the beaten path. I want to explore and take thousands of photos and see life a little differently.

But…that can’t happen now. So maybe I need a change of self. A change of perception. A change of attitude.

Highlights of the week:

* I updated my Facebook Photography Page with my new name and logo and branding!!! So excited to finally have it up somewhere!! Come on over and “like” my  new look 🙂 I also updated my instagram (now found at amberkayphoto) and my twitter @amberkayphoto

* I found my perfect kitty on the cover of a perfect book and it was so cute I can’t believe I didn’t break down and buy it for myself.

* I’m so happy that spring seems to have finally sprung. My daffodils are up and I decided to make a pretty little display of them on my kitchen table. It really brightened up the place.

* Last Wednesday I had a consult with a lovely couple to talk about their wedding. As I was sitting in Starbucks waiting for them I was reminded how weird and awkward it is waiting for someone when you have no idea what they look like. You have that moment when you say “are you Grace & Kevin?” only to have these two people look at you like you’re crazy and shake their heads no.

* For quite a few years now I’ve been doing what I call “social experiments”. It’s where when I’m out in public I make the conscious effort to look 10 different people in the eyes, smile, say hello, and wait for the response. Sometimes I get looked at like I’m from outer space. Sometimes I get no response at all besides a quick glance away. Sometimes I get looked at like I’m flirting. And sometimes…I get a hello back and a genuine smile. One day last week I got even got the smile, hello, and “you have beautiful hair”. That was so sweet!  Now you may be asking why I call this a social experiment. It’s because when I started I used to keep track of the number of smiles and hi’s I got back. I find it quite fascinating.

* Saturday I second shot a wedding that was to date on of the coldest weddings I have ever been to! The ceremony was outside and I was visibly shaking and teeth chattering. I’m so ready for warmer weather!!!! And as a note to myself…never plan a wedding in April with an outside ceremony. However the wedding party and guests were amazingly entertaining the rest of the evening and I even have the bump on my head to prove it as I got a great elbow jam in the side of the head. Anything for the perfect shot right??!!

* Yesterday was my total lazy day. I mean couch potato, watching tv all day, lazy day. It was wonderful! I actually have started watching the tv show “trophy wife” and I’m finding it quite humorous. Any other shows you recommend I try?

Have a great Monday!!
